The Starlette Revue
Entering its 5th full year of production, the Starlette Revue has swiftly taken hold of Southern California nightlife and shows no sign of letting go! Part cabaret, part female & celebrity impersonation, part all out circus of glamour, debauchery, and comedy, the Starlette Revue is not your gay uncle’s drag show.
Located in Long Beach at restaurant/bar/nightclub Choices, the show is held every Tuesday at 10:00 p.m., but usually 10:30 once the girls are finally ready. There really isn’t one way to describe what to expect. One week you might see a fire baton twirling Bette Midler look-a-like followed by an armpit sniffing Mary Catherine Gallagher (of SNL fame), while the next time you could see Dolly Parton fluffing the stage for a number from Prince or maybe a 300 pound Cher.
What can be counted on is the hostess and creator of the Starlette Revue, Jewels. Her biting monologue opens each and every show, chalk full of audience participation and gobs of commentary on whatever the hell is on her twisted mind.
Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, promotion, anniversary, circumcision, death, or loss of virginity, be sure to let Jewels or a member of the staff know. Your event will be widely acknowledged live on stage; humiliation at no extra charge to you!
Speaking of charges, there is a $5.00 dollar cover charge for all guests 21 and over. Underage friends pay $10.00 dollars. Drinks and appetizers are moderately priced and the waiters are (natch) hot-hot-hot. Arrive early as seating is limited.
Finally, expect the unexpected. Hostess Jewels is known for portraying a vast canvas of performers varying between Courtney Love, Reba McEntyre, Cyndi Lauper, Dolly Parton, Bjork, Britney Spears, and Shania Twain. You might also catch her in a kiddie-pool wearing a string bikini wrestling in hot fudge and whipped cream while wearing roller skates. You just never know.
The Starlette Revue boasts a bevy of rotating girls each week. Succulent Delta Work is there every Tuesday "working" it out. Every other Tuesday you’ll find Hollywood legend Dolly Levi and the sexxxtra-terestrial RAJA flip flopping like only they can. Making equally illustrious appearances are "The Dancing Devil" Big D, special guest appearance by Jasmine Masters, Venus D-Light, Tammy Brown, Allegra, and many, many more.
After the show, resident DJ Dennis opens up the floor to dancing. But be sure to step out into the smoking patio to get up close and personal with the performers as they schmooze their way through the crowd, offering up autographs, random sexual favors, dirty looks, and much love.
